Miyamoto On the Wii: "The Hardware Is Basically A GC."

The dig against the Wii is that it's pretty much a GameCube. With a new controller. But, so what? In a recent interview, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto confirms that:

The hardware is basically a GC. We've upgraded our development tools to new versions but, you can still use GC programs as they are. With that in mind, I thought we could remake GC titles for the Wii and modify them to work with the Wii remote so that they're more fun to play.
Not only that, Miyamoto thinks Wii-makes won't command full price as its easy to find the original GameCube titles second hand. Though, fret not, Miyamoto notes that the Wii does have better graphic capabilities than the GameCube, and there will be eye candy games for the Wii. So, it's the GameCube, but better. What's wrong with that?

Generic Downgrader for 2.71

Dark Alex has released a new downgrader for the PSP, heres the release details:

    This downgrader lets a psp running firmware 2.71 and HEN C to downgrade to any version from 1.50-2.60, or even reflash the 2.71 version.

    This downgrader is safer, faster, and a lot easier to use than the previous downgraders. It also makes a clean firmware install, since this time there is a format of flash0 (just like sce updaters do).
    A firmware dump is not needed, only the eboot.pbp of an update.

    TA-082 users can downgrade to 2.70/2.60/2.50. TA-082 users, DO NOT downgrade below 2.50.

Man kann diesen Downgrader also unter 2.71 starten und braucht nur noch ein normales Update für die PSP. Für viele Downgrader wird ein Dump des Flashs benötigt, es ist jedoch illegal diese zu verbreiten.
Desweiteren ist der Downgrader nun sicherer.

Dark_Alex's 2.71 SE-A Firmware SOON

Dark_Alex is about to release a 2.71 custom firmware for non-TA-082 devices called 2.71 SE (SE stands for Special Edition)

The revision A will feature:

- 1.00/1.50 Eboot support (both kernel and user mode)

- 2.71 Eboot support (both kernel and user mode)

- run on 2.71 vsh

- Ability to run devhook (both 1.50 and 2.71 versions are fully compatible)

- Ability to run any 2.71 (and below UMDs)

- 1.00/1.50 prx executable support

- support both kxploited and unpatched eboots for 1.50 kernel

- support any 2.71 homebrews codded for HEN C

- Compatibility is 100% for 2.71 homebrews and approx 99% for 1.00/1.50 homebrews

How does it work ?

Both 1.50 and 2.71 kernel are flashed into flash0
it uses 1.50 kernel to bootstrap patched 2.71 firmware

How to flash it?

You will need to use the helper that will be provided to get a complying dump into a DXAR format, once you get it done properly use the flasher to "update" to the 2.71 SE-A

Pros : - Full 2.71 homebrew support
- Almost full 1.50 homebrews support (some homebrews like umdemu or xflash might not work properly with it, still so far all of the 1.50 homebrews I tried worked fine)
- Recovery menu
- Full Devhook support
- Access to all 2.71 features
- Native 2.71 UMD support
- 1.50 decrypted prx executable support
- Real no-kxploit embebed (thus 1.00 unpatched eboot support)
- have access to all 2.71 kernel features using 2.71 homebrews, such as GPS support or wpa support.

Only known con: takes about 1-2 second(s) more to load the firmware at startup

UPDATE : A new con: Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and Korean are going to be removed from this firmware and wont be able to be selected.

Dark_Alex 2.71 Special Edition - Revision A custom firmware Released

Dark_Alex has just released 2.71 Special Edition - Revision A custom firmware. Heres what the readme has to say:

This is a custom firmware that lets to have in a single flash the advantages of firmware 1.50 and
2.71 at the same time.

Homebrew can be run on both kernels, the 1.50 one and the 2.71 one, letting almost all current homebrew
to work on the 1.50 kernel, and 2.71 homebrew compatible with HEN C in the 2.71 kernel.

Note: the installer writes to FLASH0. I'm not responsable of any damage of what happens,
since this software is provided free and without warranty.
TA-082 users cannot use this because a 1.50 bootstrap is needed to boot the system patched.

At the moment, there is only installer for 1.50, although it could be easily ported to whatever
firmware with kernel access such as 2.60 and 2.71, but at the moment i prefer not to doing it to avoid
TA-082 using it and bricking their psp's.

Note that this package DOES NOT contain any illegal material. The user has to provide the 1.50 and
2.71 updaters pbp's to legally generate the DXAR file used for the flashing.

Reminder: This flashes to your PSP. Use at your own risk.

PSP mit 2.81 von Werk

Einige kennen das ja. Auf der Verpackung steht ein kleiner Buchstabe, mit dem man bestimmen kann, welche Firmware auf der PSP original installiert ist. "C" war ja die 2.52 und nun gibt es "L" mit der 2.81. Auf dieser Firmware geht GAR NIX. Ich finde Sony hat recht schnell reagiert, sonst hat es länger gedauert, bis die aktuelle Firmware auf den neuen PSPs war.

RS2004FS mini DATASHEET

Ich hab mal ne PDF zum RS2004FS (v12/13/14 Treiber) erstellt, nenne es miniDATASHEET, da es für ein richtiges DATASHEET zu unvöllständig ist, aber für uns ist alles wichtige vorhanden.
Drin enthalten ist ne Pinbelegung, kleine Schaltung vom GH-032 Board + summ0ne's Fix sowie ne Erklärung, wie man erkennt, dass er defekt ist. Viel Spass damit!

PS3: Keine austauschbaren Controller-Akkus

In einer heutigen Mitteilung nimmt Sony zu aktuellen Gerüchten Stellung, die besagen, dass der Akku des PlayStation 3-Gamepads nicht ausgetauscht werden könne. Den Gerüchten nach werde der Controller im Falle eines Schadens demnach unbrauchbar. Fakt ist: Der Energiespeicher kann tatsächlich nicht von Hand entfernt werden, allerdings will Sony einen Service einrichten, der die defekten Akkus für euch austauscht. Die Pressemitteilung weist außerdem darauf hin, dass die Gefahr einer Leistungsminderung bei Lithium Polymer Akkus sehr gering sei und wenn überhaupt, dann erst nach einigen Jahren einträte. Zu den nach Ablauf der Garantiezeit eventuell anfallenden Kosten für den Tausch-Service konnte Sony auf unsere Anfrage noch keine Angaben machen.

Hab unter PS2/ Homebrew noch 2 Emus dazu gepackt und ne Anleitung, wie man die Homebrew CDs brennt und die SYSTEM.SNF erstellt.

2.71 SE-B Ready and beeing tested as we speak, to be release soon.

Ok, at zeus's request I am posting here a thread of all the 2.71 SE-B features:

- built-in iso/cso support (dax to be added in 2.71 SE-C (or later)) The iso/cso int he ms0:/ISO/ folder display in the game menu. At this time an UMD has to be in the drive (that wont be needed in the future releases)

- Ability to set the ms0:/PSP/GAME/ folder for 1.50 kernel homebrews and ms0:/PSP/GAME271/ for 2.71 homebrew (this is optional)

- Ability to run an eboot at startup

- Some game compatibilty issues were fixed

- Ability to force the use of boot.bin in umds.

- Ability to enable/disable the noplainmodulecheck patch in umds/isos (for advanced users)

- All previous features from SE-A

The firmware is currently beeing tested (by Dark_Alex, myself, harleyg) and will be released very soon once we are sure there are no bugs/issues remaining.

Of course the 2.71 SE-B has been coded by Dark_Alex.
