English area / Re: Ps3's with problems

Hi Takeshi! I will modify my reballing machine project, change the IR lamps by IR ceramic resistors.

On the top will be one ceramic resistance(70mm x 70mm). On tho bottom I will put 4 resistances (120mm x 120mm each). I will produce covers to top and bottom, the top cover wil be the same area from chip and the bottom cover will be the same area from motherboard.

What do you think about that?

I read the page "Reflow 3" and I've seen some brazilian videos with the  grill technique.

And about the reballing machine with infrared lamps. Do you think a good idea?

I plan to mount a machine with 2 infrared lamps, one above and one below. Initially controlled by dimmer, but then try to automate with Arduino.

Thanks Takeshi!

All consoles were used and I bought them defective.

About Console B (CECHH12 v4) was overheated due reflow process.

I guess that Console D (CECHC03 v2) suffered a fall before I buy it,  no marks of damage on the motherboard, but the plastic case is a little mashed.

About Console E (CECHB00 v1) I guess that Southbridge  was overheated in another repair process(not with me), because in one SouthBridge's corner is dark. I will take a photo and upload here.

Hello everybody!

I'm a user since 2010, but in the  last 2 years I left the electronics repair due to job in programing. Now I decided come back and try to repair my PS3 consoles. Currently I have a small console's collection. In this collection I have 5 PS3 fat models, all of them have problems and I wanna a help to try fix them. Below have the model of PS3 and a small description of your error:

CECHE01: It had YLOD when I bought, I've made a reflow and it worked, but after months the YLOD has reappeared. When the PS3 turns on, the fan spins, the Digital out (Optical) blinks and the PS3 emits 3 bips. Both Cell and RSX are cold;

CECHH12: It overheated and now it's dead;

CECHA01: When I bought, it turns on and after 20 seconds turns off due overheating. I decided remove the IHS and after this the PS3 got a YLOD(or BSJF). When I turn it on the Digital out ( optical) lights and the green led of network connection lights, fan spins, shortly thereafter the PS3 have 3 bips. The cell gets hot and the RSX is slightly heated;

CECHC03: The unique that works partly. When I bought it has artefacts on the image and shortly thereafter it has a black screen and the controller doesnt work. Everytime that I make a reflow the PS3 works normally, but hours after the black screen come back;

CECHB00: It has a YLOD. When I turn on the PS3 the Digital out blinks weakly, the fan spins and the PS3 have 3 bips. Both Cell and RSX are cold.

I found a brazilian project that consist in make a reballing machine with infrared lamps. Do you know another similar project?

Hello everybody!

I did the reflow RSX, CELL, SB, Syscon and CXD2972GB. After the procedure the PS3 turned on without problems.

Unfortunately, for no reason, the power supply and the fuse F6001 broken, I changed fuse and power supply and the PS3 turned on.

The RSX is still having problems with BGA, because the image appears with some shadows.

Friday will again do the reflow.

Thank you!

The previous owner said the PS3 worked and suddenly froze, after restarting the PS3 got black screen.

The LEDs are normal, if I put a disc the blue LED light normally. Visually the Blu-ray drive is ok.

PlayStation 3 / CECHC03 with black screen
11. März 2013, 15:32:37
Hello everybody!

I bought another PS3 fat (CECHC03) defective. I like the FAT models because are more elegant! It's my fourth PS3 FAT.

The PS3 has the following problems:
Dualshock does not synchronize;
No image (black screen - no signal) in HDMI and component video outputs;

CELL and RSX heats normally.

The motherboard is in the perfect condition. All the PS fuses are OK.

When I hold the power button, the PS3 emits a beep (reset video) and after more 2 beeps(recovery mode), but I can`t do anything.

It seems that the PS3 is brick, the previous owner could not tell which firmware installed, but it seems to be 3.55 or earlier.

The PS3 never was unlocked and appears to have taken a fall.

Hello Takeshi, the Q6600 is correct, it is a FET, is on page 26 of the Service Manual and is connected to IC6602.

I think it is not an order in the boot process because I have a CECHE02 with short YLOD and yet it enables the DC-DC converters.

According to the datasheet IC6602, it works with high level.

Thanks for your attention!

Hello everyone, sorry for the delay in responding, but I was too busy.

First, in response to previous posts, no matter if I write wrong, what matters is that we understand the mensage.

After trying about 5 reflows and CECHA01 continue with the defect, I decided to measure voltages in the motherboard.

On Sunday (03/12/2012 in Brazil or 12/03/2012) got some free time and went to check the CECHA01, I found several DC-DC converters that have no output voltage (Vout = 0). According to Service Manual for CECHA01 (SM-0013E-02-PS3) the converters operate from voltage levels to pin CONT (in some ENABLE), these buses are identified by SW * (SW1, SW3 ...) being that these voltages are controlled by the IC BRIDGE.

When checking the CI Brigde I realized that that did not exist 3.3V_BRIDGE and 1.5V_BRIDGE voltages, coming from IC6021 and IC6022, I also realized that the pin CONT(SW_PCI) of IC6021 and IC6022 are at low level.

The level (SW_PCI) is controlled by IC4002 (CXR713120-201GB-TL), all VCC pins of IC4002 are normal.

I also realized that the Q6600 has a resistance 30 OHM between the GATE and SOURCE pins, It not normal, because in CECHE01 this resistance not exist.

I have no idea where to look for the defect. Any help will be appreciated!

Hello everybody!

I apologize for not answering soon, I work in an inner city and I can test the PS3 only on weekends, then only on Saturday is that I post a new picture or video for you.

To melt the NC559-ASM I did like this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHr1tPwTOVA&feature=related

Although it is a possibility I have hope that the defect is only in the RSX's BGA and not in the RSX's memories.

I wanted to make the process of Reflow slower, but I'm afraid that bubbles appear on the motherboard. I use Black & Decker HG2000K heat gun (http://www.bdferramentas.com.br/prod/cata/listProdDeta.asp?prodID=HG2000K&idGrup=Aces) and would like to know what the maximum temperature that can be used, although I always place at a temperature below 350 ° C and the time required for the process. Currently I am following the Takeshi's tutorial.

I used AMTECH NC559-ASM in reflow. It is indicated for reflow?

Thanks Takeshi and DoggyDog.

The surface of the RSX is not damaged, I'm afraid that instant glue damaged the BGA RSX's memory.

The red circles indicate where the glue was applied by the older owner.
The blue circle was a small risk in surface when I was removing the glue.

DoggyDog, the Ylod appeared after I remove the IHS, I only removed the IHS and the glue, put a new thermal paste and assemble the PS3

Hello to all Trisaster's participants! This is my second post and I wrote in English because I not  speak German!

I bought a CECHA01 with he following defect, after 2 minutes the cooler reached the last level and the PS3 shutdown without display any message error, I tried changing  the thermal paste  over the RSX IHS, but the defect remained.

Then I decided to remove the IHS, and to my surprise the older owner had already removed and changed the internal thermal paste, but the older owner pasted the IHS with instant glue, then the central part of the RSX not touched the IHS. Carefully I removed the IHS and removed all the glue residue, but after reassemble the PS3 I got YLOD, I tried 3 reflows with heat gun but without sucess.

Turn on the PS3 several times the CELL gets hot and the RSX a little warm.

What can I do? Does the RSX was damaged or was crack in the BGA?

Hello RalleBert, my friends have the slim model, I have the fat model for being more beautiful, despite the various problems that these models have.

I've used no-clean-flux in CECHE02. I intend to do reballing but the price of the service reballing in repairshop is almost half of a new PS3.

Maintenance of consoles in Brazil has expensive cost.

Thanks
